Department of Visual Impairment .
This department undertakes planning specialized programs for the institutes and programs of the blind and low-vision children .
It also, supervises the process of evaluation and improvement of these programs in addition to secure the necessary education and habilitation tools, This Includes the supervision of supportive services like The Custodian of the Tow Holy Mosques Braille Press for the production of the Holy Quar'an and educational books; The Talking Libraries and the Center for Production of the
Education Aids



Department of Hearing Impaired :
This department undertakes planning specialized programs for the institutes and programs of the deaf and hard of hearing ,participation in improving the curricula, providing the institutes and programs with necessary technical and educational needs. It also, aims at raising the level of educational process and the level of manpower in the field of the hearing impaired.



Department of Mental Retardation :
Among its responsibilities are specialized programs for the institutes and programs of the mentally retarded ,autism and multidisabled children .
The supervision of the implementation of these programs, the evaluation
improvement ...etc.



Department of Learning Disabilities :
It provides appropriate educational services for the children in the regular school to evaluate difficulties in areas such as reading, writing, math ...etc .by specialized teachers through resource room and centers.

Learning Disabilities is a very discrete type of disability that causes the student to have low academic achievements . Not being visible , Like sensory, health, physical, severe emotional or mental disorders, this disability is not usually recognized by non-specialized persons, As a result , regular education teachers and parents very often blame students for their poor performance .

However, the Saudi Arabian educational system has recently realized the fact that learning disabilities is behind the school failure of a significant number of students .

Therefore, a plan of action was set forth for preparing qualified teachers and establishing a service delivery model to provide appropriate education instruction . The collaboration of higher education and the Ministry of Education has realized this goal .

The learning disabilities programs were opened to receive LD students during the 1995/96 school year . Since then, the quality and quantity of services is steadily increasing .
More experience is being gained in identifying and teaching LD student .



The Program for Gifted and Talented Children :
This program is directed to discover, assist and plan suitable programs for children who are gifted or talented throughout the country



Department of Students' Accommodation :
It Supervises the services of lodging, food, clothing, health and recreational activities for children whose families reside out of the town where the specialized programs are available.



Studies and Development Department :
This department is responsible for the following tasks :
- Improvement of curricula, textbooks, regulation, supervision of diagnosis procedures, guidance and counseling services,extra curriculum activities ...etc.
- Coordinating the participation of professional development activities such as study scholarships, conferences, seminars and futural plans for the education expansion.
- Facilitate the needs assessment of manpower, equipment, books,
materials ...etc. for all programs .




Department of Public Relation and Educational Awareness :
It undertakes the informational plans intended to achieve the educational aims of the DGSE . It is, also, responsible for raising awareness of the affairs of those with special educational needs in the society . This includes the production of radio and T.V programs, newspapers, magazines and magazine announcements ... etc.




Department of Administrative Affairs :
The tasks of this department are communications, typing, warehouses and public services.
